Summer Student Position - Assistant Farmers' Market Manager

Temporary, full-time, 30 hrs/week, 8 week term; 4-day work week, must work Saturdays

Approximate Start Date: May 30, 2016

Wage: $11.65/hr

Overview

The Assistant Market Manager will work under the guidance of the board secretary and volunteer manager to promote the Bridgewater Farmers' Market as a weekly community building event that provides access to healthy food and supports rural livelihoods and rural economic development. He/she will update and distribute marketing materials, gather market statistics, support the operation of the market on market day, and work on specific projects.

We offer farmers' market related study opportunities, mentoring, and a chance to work on independent projects.

Requirements

Must be 18 - 30 years old

One year university or college in a related field (e.g. business administration, marketing, public relations, municipal planning, environmental & sustainability studies, nutrition, visual arts, etc.)

Must be a full-time student and intent to return to school full-time in the fall of 2016

Must be a Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada

Not an immediate family member related a member of the Bridgewater Farmers Market

Must be available to work every Saturday

Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs

Must be organized, able to take direction, and able to work independently on assigned projects

Experience and/or strong interest in areas such as farmers' markets, agriculture, food security, local economic development, community development and food/cooking will be considered an asset, as will interest in future employment in these areas.
